SITED HIGH ON PIRONGIA'S HILLSIDE, the strictly controlled budget of this house was maintained through the simplicity of its extruded form, linear plan and modest structural spans. The house was built in conventional timber framed construction with some additional steel posts along the northern façade to dissipate the high wind loads. A secondary layer of fine steel posts supports sun screening over the northern glazed façade. It is the refined outer veil which casts the shadows to accentuate the horizontal silhouette of the house in the landscape and to provide depth to an otherwise thin walled façade. A limited palette of materials designed in sheet modules is also used to construct for projecting screen walls at the ends of the building.
