Our client came to us as owner of one townhouse in a double duplex townhouse built in the 1970’s.
From a hilltop vantage point bend on the Waikato river this building has a commanding river views in both directions of the river, not surprisingly this was a former Pa site. Our brief was to do a limited intervention to the services areas which required modernising with new appliances.
Remodelled kitchen, bathroom and laundry areas were provided including a new gas fire to the living area. The thresholds between areas were opened up as much as possible to improve their efficiency and open them to new view paths. We considered it important to retain the modest scale of spaces typical of the seventies and only a very small extension to the upstairs bathroom and roof dormer was added. The intimate scale of spaces is a revelation compared to the bloated planning and demand for large areas of more recent times.
The rich olive green carpet and marbled porcelain tiles and dark oak kitchen joinery compliment the existing pallet of rimu timber dark stained beams and white walls.
This house is a cosy refuge with exquisite views through thickly planted embankments down to the river.
