An elegant residence overlooking the Waikato River and originally designed by architect Barry Rae for the Perry family, this property was acquired by Hamilton businessman John Cook to make into his new home and sanctuary.
Rae’s 1970's design demonstrates the influence of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright with layers of low-pitched sweeping roofs and a horizontally accentuated architectural form off-set by vertical window elements.
PAUA Architect, Richard Mauriohooho, worked with owner John Cook to identify and fine-tune the key attributes of Rae’s architecture, while updating the spatial arrangement, and decorative qualities, and finishes, stripping back the timber-lining, opening up some spaces, bringing in more daylight and providing views out.
The project was undertaken in conjunction with Linda Mayall of Modern Spaces and provides a fresh, relaxing, contemporary lifestyle, in a peaceful setting.
